Eating Disorder Coaching | Counseling
Eating Disorders are very complex illnesses, caused and perpetuated by a variety of factors. Complete and lasting recovery requires a team of specialized professionals who are committed to caring for your whole person. An eating disorder counselor or coach can be a very important member of this team of specialists and make a significant difference in your recovery.
Your Eating Disorder Coach
My name is Amie Shields; I'm an educator, certified life coach, biblical counselor, writer, and speaker. Since finding freedom from anorexia after a twenty-year battle, it is now my passion and joy to help others who are struggling with eating disorders. Coaching and counseling are some of the ways God allows me to do that on an individual basis.
Transformed Living
As your recovery counselor and coach, we will work with great intentionality towards transformed living by digging down to the deepest roots of the disorder and eradicating them from your life. While we certainly want to abolish eating disordered behaviors, we also want to replace them with solutions that lead to a better way to live. The Bible gives us those answers.
Collaborative Approach
In collaboration with your therapist and/or registered dietitian, we will work towards recovery goals. One of the greatest benefits of working with a coach is having someone with whom you can process the challenges of recovery who has walked the road before you. When it gets tough, and it will, I am here to support and encourage you through all of it. Recovery includes wading through a lot of heavy hurt, confusion, regret, shame, and a whole host of other emotions. I pray that you find a comforting friend in me who can empathize and share the yoke with you.
Connection
God created us for connection. There's catharsis in connecting with others who have similar struggles. They understand the temptations, the challenges, and the emotions associated with that particular struggle. This is especially true with something like an eating disorder that can't be fully comprehended unless you've personally experienced it.
I understand the recovery journey. I know what it's like to be enslaved to an eating disorder. I remember what it feels like to lick the floor of hell. But I also understand what it's like to experience those chains of bondage being released, to no longer be controlled by the abusive voice of the eating disorder, and to be present in the moment, living the life God planned for me to live.
Friend, that is what I want for you! And it's possible! Will you let me show you the way?
Session Details
Our individual sessions are conducted through a video platform called Zoom. I also make myself as available as possible throughout the week via text, email, and video clips (ex: Marco Polo) to support you as best as possible in the middle of the moments of difficulty, in helping with necessary accountability, and/or to share in positive accomplishments. You'll also be assigned homework for each upcoming session that will be of great benefit to you in the recovery process.
