Eating Disorder Recovery Retreat
Recovery Retreat
Are you working hard towards eating disorder recovery and wishing you could have a little extra support? Do you long for companionship and encouragement from people who understand your struggle? Are you exhausted in your efforts and in need of a treatment refresher to energize your heart and help you continue on this recovery path?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, we invite you to Come Away. Join us on Amelia Island, FL, November 12 - 15, 2020 for our Eating Disorder Recovery Retreat. Step away from daily stressors for a few days and give extra focus to God's plan for you to walk in freedom. We'll enjoy special speakers and guests, nourishing meals, self-care activities, beach walks, recovery-focused groups, Bible studies, worship time, and more in a beautiful, resort-style home in the Omni Plantation.
Cost
Through the generous giving of caring individuals, this retreat is made available to women, ages 18 and over, at a cost of $350 per person. This includes all lodging; groups; presentations; self-care activities; dinner on Thursday night; breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks on Friday and Saturday; and breakfast on Sunday. Additional scholarships may be available at a later date but cannot be guaranteed. [Excluded from cost: travel expenses, Plantation/Centre Street shopping (optional), meal challenge.]
Registration
Registration is limited to 12 women on a first come, first served basis. A $125 registration fee is required to hold your place as confirmation that you plan to attend so that we can secure the rental and other deposits according to the guaranteed number of attendees. The remaining balance must be paid in full by October 12. Note: Refunds are not guaranteed in the event of inclement weather, pandemic, or other emergency. We will make every effort to do so, but it will be according to the determination of venue owners, etc.
We expect to be on a waiting list, so don't delay in registering if you plan to attend. Upon receipt of your registration form, we will send a PayPal invoice. Your $125 deposit will hold your place until the full balance is paid before October 12.
Times
Checkin will begin on Thursday, October 12 at 4PM. Please arrive no later than 5PM for our opening presentation. The event will end on Sunday at 4PM.
A full schedule will be available in late October. Please understand that all retreat activities (Thursday 5PM - Sunday 4PM) are beneficial for your recovery, and participation/attendance is expected unless previous arrangements are made.
Transportation
We are happy to help with shuttles to and from JAX airport. If needed, we will pick up at 3:30PM on Thursday and return at 5PM on Sunday. Other transportation is available to you at your cost, if necessary.
Limited parking is available in the vacation home driveway itself. A nearby lot is reserved for attendee parking at no cost to you with shuttle service to the house.
Guidelines
Please do not bring weapons, alcohol, tobacco products, vapes, or recreational drugs of any kind on your person and/or in the house during any time of the retreat. This is also a pet-free home.
Please commit to using language that is edifying to the Lord and to one another. There's enough negativity in this world without us adding to it. We also want to ensure that our conversations don't include eating disorder behavior specifics and/or numbers.
This beautiful, resort-style home has been graciously rented to us a discounted rate. We are responsible for any damages incurred; please be responsible. The home comfortably sleeps 12 people via king, queen, and twin sized beds. Attendees in king and queen sized beds will share the bed with another attendee, or blow up mattresses are available if preferred.
Above all, we want to honor the Lord in all that we say and do over the weekend. We acknowledge that His plan is for us to live an abundant life, freely, rather than enslaved to an eating disorder. Therefore, we must adhere to common guidelines to ensure that we are actively choosing recovery and not take any chance of triggering anyone or enabling eating disorder behaviors. We all understand, firsthand, how sneaky the enemy can be, and we want to be proactive in protecting one another.
All attendees must be committed to recovery. As such, eating disordered behaviors are not welcome in the home. Please be certain that you are in a place where you can commit to the guidelines below before deciding to attend. (Remember that this is a safe place where you will receive a lot of support. We just need your willing heart and acknowledgement that we are actively choosing recovery. We know that this will be difficult for many, and support will be provided.) If you are not in a place where you can commit to these things for these three days, for the sake of others' recovery, we lovingly request that you wait to postpone attending until you can commit.
ED Specific Guidelines: Please remember that we struggle in different ways. What is hard for some may not be for you, and visa versa. Because we love and care for one another, we will commit to adherence of the same guidelines.
- Please do not bring food. We will provide what is needed over the weekend. Food is not permitted in bedroom areas or away from the table.
- A volunteer will be present in bedrooms for checkin, for accountability purposes, in order to ensure your safety.
- Medications must be used for intended purposes only and taken according to the prescribed amount. We'll store them in a safe location upon checkin.
- Snacks and meals are not optional. A complete menu will be sent to attendees in early June. If you have documented allergies, we will provide alternatives. Your dietician must send your meal plan to the BYB Team. *We recognize that this will be the most difficult part; even still, we simply cannot allow the eating disorder to get a foothold here. It would defeat the whole purpose of the retreat. Those who are not currently working with a dietician must commit to following a generalized meal plan designed by our dietician. Those details will be communicated individually. We recognize that recovery is a personal journey, and we will likely have 12 different meal plans. We will prepare each accordingly.
- The table will be as trigger-free as possible. Hiding food, cutting food into tiny pieces, pushing food around on the plate, and/or any other food rituals will not be permitted.
- We will refrain from using restrooms for a minimum of 60 minutes after each meal and snack. In an emergency, for the sake of accountability, we will talk or sing while the door is closed.
- Our exercise over the weekend will include light beach strolls in the evenings, as a group. Please do not plan to exercise beyond that extent on your own.
